Mom got this; bring on the ‘rain’!

I lived in Manhattan for over a decade of my life and loved every single second of it.  I don’t know how or why, but for some reason, you could hop on a subway in the upper west side where it was sunny and beautiful, and by the time you got off downtown, it was thundering, lightning, and flooding every nook and cranny of the island.  I was hit with one too many of these surprise rain storms that I eventually realized I had to do something about it. I bought a tiny umbrella to keep in my everyday tote bag, I asked for trendy rain boots and a rain coat for my upcoming birthday presents, and every morning while I brushed my teeth, I checked the hourly weather report for that day just to see if rain was even a maybe that day. These tiny adjustments had such an immense impact on my mood. Where I was once annoyed, flustered, and angry, I was now experiencing absolutely none of that.

Sticking to simply the actual notion of rain for one more minute, I brought these ideas on with me to motherhood.  My children have been well equipped for the rain since babies.  We had clear rain covers for the stroller, every few months I bought the next size up in rain coats, and my kids always have at least one pair of cute, pull-on rain boots.  My kids actually look forward to rain storms because we all go outside and stomp in puddles, listen for thunder, check for rainbows, and just have a completely fun and carefree time.  We are not annoyed, flustered, or angry in the least.  Why?  Because we have the proper ‘tools’ at hand and are prepared for what lies ahead.  This, here, is where I will take the story away from just being about physical rain.  The rain here can really represent anything (obstacle or not) in our lives that is out of our control.  We will never be able to control things like the rain in our lives, even as hard as we try.  What we can do, however, is equip ourselves with the necessary tools to be able to handle all that life throws at us.  These tools and this mindset is huge in leading that carefree, happy, fulfilled life us moms crave.  My goal with my clients is to instill in them confidence to be able to tackle anything along their mothering journeys.  Moms, you got this; bring on the ‘rain’.
